What are Display Ads and where would I find them?
Display ads dominate social media and are found on smart phone apps, the television, websites and many more platforms. They can be along the top of web pages such as banner ads, which you may see on a website or email, or the larger bilboard type formats. They can also be in video format, e.g. before YouTube videos.
These types of ads appear on particular sections of the site that are specifically reserved for paid advertising and are aimed at generating a quick conversion. Display ads serves a way for businesses to manage their website traffic, as advertisers pay to have their ads displayed online. Ads feature on the majority of websites and in some cases you will see multiple ads per page.
Many websites use ads just like TV uses adverts during programs. It is essential to have some form of advertisement because the money made funds the websites operations. For example a Coca -cola advert may appear during a episode of Simpsons, companies are able to pay other companies to have their ads displayed during the advertisement break.
Adverts may include bold letters and bright colours to catch the eye of the audience. There has to be a balance though, it cant be to excessive because it may put off the viewer. A common theme used is rhetorical question, this can be used to get the audience thinking which will keep them engaged. This a good technique and is used by many mainstream companies such as Sky, BT and Tesco.
